Pilling Clarified
Cashmere is a particularly fine natural fiber with soft, light structure. Because of this nature, the so-called pilling can be formed on the surface when wearing small balls.
This phenomenon does not represent a lack of quality, but is a natural process that arises through friction - for example when wearing jackets, by handbags or in places that are heavily stressed such as sleeves and side sections. As a result of this load, shorter fibers can be released from the yarn and felt on the surface.
How much pilling is produced depends on the fiber length and the carrying. Longer cashmere fibers remain better tied in the yarn and tend less to form small balls. Shorter fibers are somewhat more sensitive and react to friction in the first days of wear.
Pilling is therefore a characteristic feature of fine natural yarns and part of the typical behavior of high-quality cashmere products.
How to Treat Cashmere Right
Treatment before washing
A cashmere pickover requires frequent laundry. As a rule, a cleaning is sufficient after two to three carrying units or when Pilling begins. Before washing, in the dry state, the garment should be gently cleaned with a cashmere razor of small bones - for a permanently maintained appearance.
Washing & drying
Cashmere should be washed in a wool wash cycle at 30°C, ideally with a special wool detergent and a maximum of 600 spins. After washing, the sweater is placed flat on a towel and dried on a clothes rack - so avoid pressure points through the grid. If the garment is completely dry, it can be placed in the dryer for up to five minutes at Wool finish. This short process freshens the fibers and makes the material pleasantly soft. Please stay close during this time and remove the piece in time.
Treatment after washing
After washing, the sweater can be carefully removed again with a cashmere razor if necessary. It is then recommended to easily dampen the material in order to smooth the shape and to gently shape the natural structure of the fiber. Then the sweater can be worn directly or carefully folded. For storage we recommend lavender bags - they naturally protect against moths and give the garment a subtle, fresh scent.
